4th Battalion of NAP commemorate 50 years

The 4th Battalion of the Nagaland Armed Police (NAP) commemorated its 50 years on October 15 at the Durbar Hall, Thizama.  

T John Longkumer, IPS, Director General of Police Nagaland graced the celebration as the special guest. The golden jubilee was marked by the unveiling of a monolith at the venue. The monolith was unveiled by the DGP in the presence of Police officers and dignitaries with Nizopre Ritse, Pastor, unit church, invoking the dedicatory prayer.  

Founded in 1968 with its headquarters at Longnak, the 4th Battalion NAP was established to maintain law and order in the Assam Border areas. The headquarters was later shifted to its current location at Thizama in 1972 with its main focus in assuaging the insurgency problem in the State. The 4th Battalion NAP played a major role in assuaging the situation during the Merapani Conflict where many officers and men lost their lives. The unit provided its services in other states such as Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.  

"The battalion are the forerunners in bringing peace in the State. The battalion has not only been the pioneers in border conflicts but also in tackling insurgency issues as well," said T John Longkumer, while congratulating the jawans of the battalion. Reminding the gathering on the rich history of the battalion, the DGP mentioned that the unit was privileged to have been commanded by many former DGPs and Officers.  

Longkumer further encouraged the Jawans of the battalion to be God fearing and serve with humility by reaffirming their solemn duty and their motto of Service, Security and Sacrifice to humanity.  

During the celebration, the DGP also paid tribute to the jawans and officers of the battalion who lost their lives during the Merapani conflict in the line of duty for the State.  

A brief account on the history and achievements of the Battalion in its 50 years of existence was delivered by Teisovise Metha, NPS, Commandant, 4th NAP Battalion. Special numbers were presented by students of the regimental school, 4th battalion, NAP Thizama, Keviphilie Theunüo ABI, and the DGP band. The event was chaired by Vesupra Kezo, NPS Dy. Commandant, while the vote of thanks was addressed by T Denyong Konyak, NPS Dy. Commandant.
