MOKOKCHUNG, SEPTEMBER 26 (MExN): The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) and the Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) have taken stock of certain pertinent issues in Mokokchung district and approached the concerned authorities to discuss ways of addressing them.
A joint statement from the two organizations informed that the issues concerned include the pathetic road condition in Mokokchung Town, the non-operation of Interstate Bus Terminus (ISBT), Khensa, the non-release of the funds to the PMEGP beneficiaries (2014-15) in Mokokchung and also the condition of the IMDH (Civil Hospital). The MTLT and AKM shared their concerns with the Heads of Departments and submitted joint letters for immediate action.
With regard to the Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH), the MTLT and AKM expressed concern that “of late, there were lots of grievances from different quarters about the IMDH.” It informed that doctors and nurses are doing their best; but there are rooms for improvement. The two organizations met with the IMDH authorities and shared concerns and aspirations for the only government hospital in the district. They pointed to the lack of manpower – doctors and technicians – in the hospital, and asked that the state government look into this matter at the earliest.
The organizations also called for improvement of circular roads in Mokokchung town, which was handed over to the Urban Development Department by the PWD (R&B) in 2014. The road condition in Mokokchung town is in a pathetic condition, they informed. The two bodies submitted a letter to the District Urban Development Officer, Mokokchung in this regard and demanded that the roads should be repaired as per the specification of the department and the Urban Development Department should not release the ‘completion certificate’ till the roads are repaired.
Meanwhile, the MTLT and the AKM expressed concern that the Interstate Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Khensa is still not operational till date. The Mokokchung DC had in an official order directed the private buses and NST to operate from the ISBT, Khensa. But till date, it is not operation. The ISBT, Khensa was funded by the North East Council (NEC) and it is one of the best ISBT infrastructures, they viewed, and asked the DC to make the terminal functional at the earliest.
Further, the two organizations said that many youths, who have applied for the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), have not received the funds under the flagship progamme of the Central Government. As such, they asked the Mokokchung DC to direct the respective banks to dispense the funds at the earliest.
The two organizations affirmed that they would pursue these matters till the end and requested the concerned authority and state government to take up the issues with all sincerity.
