Audiences were treated to a special performance by Russian professional violinist, Maria Cherednikova and her musical ensemble of students and friends who performed a wide range of Russian classical pieces from across the ages at the Bridge Church, in Walfort colony, on April 29.
The musical pieces performed were an ode to famous Russian composers such as, Tchaikovsky, Evgeni Petrovich Derbenko, A Chernenko, Alexsandr Borodin and the like. As they were a reflection on the hardships, conflicts, and revolutions that have marred Russia throughout its modern history.
Towards the end of the event, audiences were also provided with authentic Russian food to make the evening more special.
Maria Cherednikova, who is also a music teacher at Patkai Christian College, hosted the event to celebrate Russian culture, particularly its music. However, she explained that this was in no way a support for the Russian invasion of Ukraine. She revealed that instead, part of the money generated from the concert will go towards helping a Ukrainian refugee family who fled their country due to the aforementioned conflict.
Maria also explained that initially she was supposed to leave India in order to return to her native country in May, but due to the ongoing conflict, it was not possible for her to do so. She nevertheless hoped that the ceaseless conflict would end soon. “It is truly a tragedy because human’s lives are important. So for me personally, I do not support the war,” she said.
