Anaemia awareness and screening camp held in Wokha

Wokha, October 6 (MExN): An anaemia awareness and screening camp for adolescent girls was organised as part of Rashtriya Poshan Maah on October 4.

The camp, held at the Urban Health Centre, was organised by the Department of Social Welfare under the CDPO Wokha Project in collaboration with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, stated a DIPR report.

According to a DIPR report, Dr Chonben Ezung, a Medical Officer, highlighted the importance of health awareness for adolescent girls, stating that menstrual hygiene is nothing to shy away from and emphasising the need for community-wide awareness for proper healthcare.

Dr. Thungrhoni Kikon, another Medical Officer, spoke on the significance of oral hygiene and dental care, informing attendees about the availability of free dental check-ups at the health centre.

All girls attending the camp were screened for anaemia, with 14 referred for medical advice due to low haemoglobin levels and six others referred for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD), the release stated.

Sanitary pads were distributed to the participants by the Social Welfare Department.

The programme was chaired by supervisors Evelynne Yepthomi and Nchumthung Odyuo, with collaboration from the Chief Medical Officer's office and local Anganwadi Workers.
