Kohima, May 26 (MExN): The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has issued a 20-day ultimatum to the State Government to commence construction of a 100-bedded girls’ hostel at Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma, cautioning of democratic protests if the demand is not met.
The ultimatum follows a prolonged delay in executing the project, which was sanctioned under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding amounting to Rs 3,52,68,650, the union said in a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of Nagaland.
According to the ANCSU, the first installment of Rs 1,05,80,595 was released on April 12, 2023, but the project has remained completely stagnant since then. The union expressed grave concern over reports that the funding agency has initiated proceedings for the refund of the sanctioned amount due to the failure of authorities to commence work within the stipulated timeframe.
The ANCSU has demanded immediate intervention to safeguard the sanctioned CSR amount and commence construction within the approved budget. The union warned that non-compliance within the 20-day deadline would compel it and the wider student community to initiate “any befitting democratic protest in the larger interest of higher education and student welfare in the State.”
The letter was jointly signed by ANCSU President Kivika Yeptho and General Secretary Sotilo Tep. The union noted that the ultimatum follows previous representations, including a memorandum dated September 24, 2025, an appeal dated March 24, 2026, and a press release issued on May 1, 2026.
