ANSAM seeks logical conclusion to Indo-Naga peace talk

Imphal, December 27 (MExN): The All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM) extended its welcome to Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Manipur on Sunday.

Student Unions under the aegis of ANSAM welcomed the Home Minister with banners and placards seeking ‘honorable’ solution to the Indo-Naga political issue.

The ANSAM also submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister seeking logical conclusion of the Indo-Naga peace talk.

It stated that any agreement without ensuring recognition of ‘Naga Flag, Constitution and Integration’ would not address the political aspirations of the Nagas as a people.

ANSAM further asserted that the Government of India must focus on one ‘mutually negotiated solution’ and discard “any exploration for piece meals‘imposed solutions’, which will not serve the end of lasting peace.”

The Association also appealed for immediate cessation of all ‘military campaigns and political witch-hunt’ against the Naga leaders, human rights activists and national workers which is contrary to the spirit of the ceasefire and Peace Talk.

The apex Naga Students organization in Manipur expressed appreciation to all the former Prime Ministers of India who have made sincere efforts towards resolving the Indo-Naga political issue.

It termed the recognition of the ‘unique history and situation of the Nagas’ by the Government of India (GoI) under the leadership of the then Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the year 2002 as a landmark in the peace process.

ANSAM emphasized that it was the realization of the ‘political nature’ of the Naga issue on the part of India which paved the way for negotiation.

It also stated that the Naga People “wholeheartedly welcome and endorse the 3rd August 2015 Framework Agreement between the Government of India and National Socialist Council of Nagaland” signed in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. It gave the Nagas high hopes for an early and logical settlement of the Indo-Naga issue, the Association stated, adding that the Naga people from the entire Naga areas “have unanimously given their mandate to the NSCN” to negotiate with the GoI for an honorable and acceptable solution on January 21, 2005 at Hebron Camp, Dimapur.

23 years of political talk demands a logical conclusion with due recognition of ‘Naga Flag, Constitution and Integration’ as our ‘Inalienable Rights’,” ANSAM stated.

Solution to the protracted Indo-Naga issue must be inclusive, honorable and acceptable, and based on the unique Naga History and its situations, it reiterated.
