Dimapur, December 22 (MExN): The elected representatives of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly from Ao community have taken up the Mokokchung-Assam border issue and the completion of the Foot Hill Road construction with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on December 17.
Informing this in a press release on behalf of the legislators on Tuesday, MLA Imkong L Imchen and Minister Metsubo Jamir stated that they were, “fully satisfied with the prompt response of the CM and committed that he will take up the Foot Hill Road construction forthwith.”
The meeting was necessitated after an economic blockade that lasted 25 days was imposed along the Mokokchung-Mariani road or NH 702D by Assam based organisations in the mid November. The blockade was lifted on December 9.
In the release, the legislators stated that the “totally unwarranted” blockade was imposed on the premise that, “the road condition of Mariani to Mokokchung is not good and not motorable, later on they started objecting the location of one COVID-19 pandemic Check-Post at Ao Senden village.”
The Chief Minister stated that the road construction was conceived and initiated by himself during his previous tenure as CM but unfortunately neglected after he left for Delhi, the release stated. It further added that “there is no reason why we should not trust the commitment of the CM for speedy action.”
The release stated that the road starting from Tizit to Khelma is considered as the most important road of the State which will go a long way in the all round socio-economic development in addition to giving relief to the daily commuters from across the State.
On behalf of the Ao community, the legislators also expressed gratitude to the CM for his prompt response to the plight of the people.
