Denies claims of acceptance of ULBs with reservation
Mokokchung, September 6 (MExN): In a significant development, the Ao Senden today clarified that the ‘purported report’ that it “accepted” the 33% women reservation in urban local bodies (ULBs) during the September 1 consultative meeting was “unfounded” and thus, “regrettable.”
This was one of the three unanimous resolutions passed during the joint meeting of Ao Senden, All Ward Union Mokokchung Town, and Land Owner Board Mokokchung Town (Ungma, Mokokchung & Khensa Village Councils) on September 6 in Mokokchung.
The meeting further resolved that Naga people should be consulted before the proposed new municipal Act that is introduced in the State Assembly.
Article 371A must not be compromised while framing the new Act, the resolution asserted.
It also resolved to ‘support the stance taken’ with regard to the Supreme Court hearing on the issue, without elaborating further.
It must be noted here that September 1 consultative meeting was held to deliberate on the contentious issues of ULBs issue, Forest Conservation (Amendment) Act and Uniform Civil Code.
Addressing media after the meeting, Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affair, KG Kenye described the gathering as ‘very conclusive’ and stated that a ‘consensus’ was reached on the three issues.
