Ao Senden revokes order expelling Changki village

Mokokchung, July 29 (MExN): Ao Senden, the apex organization of Ao community, has revoked its order of expelling the Changki village from the Ao Community through a mutual agreement on July 29, 2022.

During a meeting held on Friday at the Ao Senden conference hall, after thorough talk and discussion, the Ao Senden welcomed back the Changki village and cancelled all the orders and penalties imposed on the Changki Ayim Asem Senso Mungdang (CAASM).

The meeting was attended by the two clans of Changki village, in-laws of Changki village, and the officers and executive members of Ao Senden. Following the meeting, it decided to accept Changki village back to the Ao community basing on the ‘mutual agreement’ signed between the two clans on Changki village and on the grounds that Changki people will adhere to the Ao customs and conventions.

A press release appended by CAASM, President, Aotsungba; Changki in-laws Core-Committee, Secretary, Dr Rev Temjen Ozukum; Ao Senden President, Chubawati Longchar; and General Secretary, Imtipokyim stated that the issue of conflict between the two clans of Changki village was brought to the notice of the Ao Senden on August 3, 2006.

The efforts of Ao Senden to resolve the conflict amicable failed due to non-cooperation from the Changki community which resulted in excluding the CAASM from Ao Community for 30 years w.e.f October 10, 2014. With the intervention of the Changki in-laws, peace and unity was brought among the Changki clans through a mutual ‘Changki Village Agreement’ on May 25, 2022.

The press release stated that “Based on the ‘Changki Village Agreement’, the CAASM had written to the Ao Senden to accept them back to the Ao community.” Therefore, the Ao Senden had called for the executive meeting on July 29, 2022 where it resolved to “forgive and also revoke all order imposed on the CAASM.” The meeting also resolved that any breach of Ao customs and conventions by CAASM will not be tolerated in the future.
