Dimapur, June 6 (MExN): Asufü Christian Institute (Autonomous), Mao, observed World Environment Day with a large-scale plantation drive organised by its Eco Club, reaffirming its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.

The programme, held on June 5, was organised to mark World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5 to raise awareness about environmental challenges and encourage collective action for the protection and restoration of nature.

Faculty members, non-teaching staff and students from all departments participated in the plantation drive, during which local cherry tree saplings were planted across the campus and along the stretch leading to Kapengho Junction on the Kidima-Nagaland Road, covering nearly one kilometre beyond the institute's boundary.

Apart from planting new saplings, participants also carried out maintenance of trees planted during earlier environmental campaigns by clearing weeds, replenishing manure, cleaning the surroundings and undertaking other measures to ensure their healthy growth and survival.

The institute said the activity highlighted the importance of not only planting trees but also providing sustained care to ensure their long-term contribution to environmental conservation.

Speaking on the occasion, Eco Club Convenor Lohrü Adai emphasised that environmental conservation is a shared responsibility requiring the active participation of every individual. He encouraged students and staff to adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives and to regard tree plantation as a long-term commitment rather than a one-day activity.

He also stressed that consistent individual efforts could collectively make a significant contribution towards preserving the environment for future generations.

The programme concluded with enthusiastic participation from the institute community, reaffirming Asufü Christian Institute's commitment to promoting environmental awareness, ecological responsibility and sustainable development through such initiatives.
