AYO to impose total lockdown in Kohima from April 14

KOHIMA, APRIL 13 (MExN): The Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) has decided to impose a total lockdown of Kohima from April 14 onwards despite the State Government today ordering a partial resumption of government offices in the State.
In a letter to the Chief Secretary, the AYO President, KekhriePfukha and Vice President, NeidilhoutuoSechu said that with the first COVID-19 case reported from the State, the need arises for imposition of total lockdown.

The AYO observed that during the last 21-day lockdown period, there has been a lackadaisical approach from the public in complying with the directives laid down by the State government.“We have observed that the citizens of Kohima town have failed miserably in adhering to the directives, especially on social distancing, vehicular movement and random public movement,” it stated.

It further noted that since all essential commodities are being transported from Dimapur, there is fear among the people even here in Kohima.

“There are some irresponsible citizens who are wondering freely and are yet to pay a heed to the seriousness of this deadly virus. In the failure to come up with timely preventive measures, we are apprehensive of the virus spreading further in our land,” the AYO stated.

The AYO meanwhile opposed the move of the government to resume offices even with a partial staff strength.

“At a time when all the stakeholders should be on war footing to combat the virus, we felt that it is a blunder from the government to come up with such decisions,” it stated.

The AYO called upon the government to revoke its decision and not allow offices to resume before April 30.

It meanwhile informed that the vehicles and persons to be exempted during the total lockdown period include:Chief Ministers' Office, Home, Planning, Finance, NSDMA, Paramilitary Forces, Police, Home Guard & Civil Defence, Medical, NIC, DIPR, Fire & Emergency Services, PHED, Media, District Administration, KMC, people on medical ground and essential commodities/carrier trucks.
