Wokha, June 10 (MExN): The Bhandari Sub-Divisional Planning and Development Board (SDPDB) on June 10 felicitated MLA and SDPDB Chairman Achumbemo Kikon on his appointment as Advisor to the Chief Minister for SCERT and Food Processing, Nagaland, during its monthly meeting.
The meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Bhandari Longasen Lotha, who congratulated Achumbemo Kikon and lauded his active role in representing the people.
Addressing the meeting, Achumbemo Kikon spoke on the Nagaland Foothill Road project, stating that he had undertaken inspection visits and was satisfied with the completed portions of the road. He stressed that the remaining works should be executed in a timely manner while adhering to prescribed specifications and quality standards.
Junior Engineer (Power), Bhandari, Er Mhaden Murry informed the meeting that the Power Department has been conducting sensitisation programmes on the installation of smart meters across the subdivision and that further initiatives are being planned to educate the public on the benefits of the system. He also highlighted the need for additional manpower to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
Veterinary Assistant Surgeon and Quarantine Check Post officer at Merapani, Dr Kikali G Sumi, informed the house that the department has been conducting house-to-house surveillance, sample collection and testing for African Swine Fever (ASF) in pigs across the subdivision. She said no cases of the disease had been detected or reported so far.
She also briefed members on the centrally sponsored National Livestock Mission and Livestock Insurance Scheme, stating that livestock insurance provides financial protection against the death, loss or damage of animals and enables farmers to access bank loans by safeguarding their livestock assets.
SDO (Civil) Ralan Tsenthungo E Ngullie informed the meeting that a police outpost is urgently required at Tchujanphen Village in the Ralan area. SDPO Bhandari R Philips Yanthan also highlighted the need for a permanent police station at Champang, which covers around 18 villages along the state border.
The board also reviewed the performance of government schools in the subdivision, particularly the Class 10 and Class 12 examination results for 2026. Achumbemo Kikon advised poorly performing schools not to compromise on their responsibilities, stressing that teachers have a crucial role in guiding students.
The meeting decided that from the current academic year, the district administration will conduct monitoring visits to government schools to assess the performance of teachers and students with the objective of improving academic outcomes.
