Longjang, January 7 (MExN): Kicking off its yearlong development activities, the Bharatiya Janata Party Mokokchung organized a ‘farmer’s day out programme’ at Amisuba valley, in Longjang village on January 6. 

The Amisuba valley on the banks of the Mening River has been recognized as one of the most fertile areas in the district where the farmers can earn their own livelihood through their own cultivation, according to a press release from BJP Mokokchung. 

The BJP Mokokchung, Kisan Morcha collaborated with officials from different government agencies like the Agriculture and Water Resource departments who imparted knowledge to the prospective farmers. 

The BJP Mokokchung district president, Imolemba Jamir, highlighted on the importance of farming in the Naga economy. Being an agriculturalist, Jamir exhorted the prospective farmers to look beyond the village, and cultivate vegetables that can be exported to other places beyond our state, the release stated.

In the same vein, the BJP Vice President, Nukshi I Ozukum also challenged the farmers to broaden their outlook. He said that farmers are the most respected and vital pillars of the society and as such, encouraged the farmers to look beyond local markets.   

SDO of Water Resources Department, Putikokba, who was the resource person of the day, highlighted about the importance of conserving water in the valley. He also assured that that the government would extend all possible support to the farmers. 

The programme was attended by officials from the BJP Mokokchung district.
