
Dimapur, November 27 (MExN): CAN Youth, a Dimapur based NGO, supported by Mittika, Delhi DOR (Dialogue, Organize, Reclaim) organized a campaign against GBV (Gender Based Violence) at Eastern Christian College, Dimapur on November 25. GBV is a nationwide campaign with a dream to live in a gender just society, a press release stated.
“As we have experienced that people do want to talk, think, challenge issues of gender violence in this present juncture, there needs to be more and more opportunities creating to build these dialogues, be it to build understanding on what gender is or how it impacts one’s life, how one perpetuates it, carries it, experience it etc,” said the press release from Sedelo T Vadeo of CAN Youth and Project Coordinator, GBV Campaign.
About hundred students took part in the campaign, which was facilitated by CAN core team member and Campaign Coordinator Sedelo T. Vadeo.
CAN Youth’s GBV Campaign team members Ruokuobeituo Kire, Hukatoli, Katini, Japhet Chawang and Rachel Cukhamu presented a short theatre on GBV, which reflected the rigid patriarchal convention and label of men and women by the society creating inequality between men and women, the release said. Stereotype breaking activities were also done along with the students and teachers to promote gender just in the society. Many students came out with issues related to their personal experience for discussions regarding women harassment, eve teasing and judgement, stereotype of society towards dress codes.
Md. Zubair from Mittika Delhi DOR also encouraged the students’ community to work towards gender just society as a whole rather than individual. The event concluded with chain of change activity and signature campaign by the students.
Further, CAN Youth thanked Eastern Christian College for their concern towards the issue and for their active participation.
