CCEM holds meeting with legislators

Phek, September 25 (MExN): The Chakhesang Clean Election Movement (CCEM) in pursuance of the NBCC Clean Election guidelines had joint meeting with the present and former Chakhesang legislators recently.

Several present and former legislators and officials from civil societies spoke at the programme. All present and former legislators lauded the 18-point guidelines of CCEM, but said some points are practically not possible and therefore requested CCEM to modify the guidelines if possible, stated a press release.

MLA Azo Nienu lauded the initiative taken by the CCEM and requested them to study the Election Code of Conduct too for better results. Maintaining that the campaign will be a success, Azo mentioned that every candidate wishes to win very clean but it practically may be difficult. He also shared some of the ground realities faced by the legislators and the candidates.

Meanwhile, Deo Nukhu suggested that the Election Code of Conduct and the guidelines of CCEM should be compared for bringing about some changes. He also shared the practical difficulties in following all the guidelines though he appreciated the 18-point guidelines of CCEM.

Neiba Kronu appealed to the crowd to be more practical and put collective efforts as all agree in principle to bring about changes. “Let us not hate each other because criticism can never be the solution,” he urged, according to the release. He also requested the CCEM and CBCC to work with the Naga national groups to draw proper lines and understand one’s own profession.

Chotisuh Sazo on the other hand requested that false allegations made by the church leaders against the candidates and legislators should be studied properly. Alleging that buying and selling of votes have already started, he requested the CCEM to intervene.

Former NLA Speaker, Zhovehu Lohe said that integrity, calibre, capability etc. of the candidates/ legislators have become useless because of corruptions. Verifying and examining the electoral roll, he stated, should be the main priority to have Clean Election.

Former MLA Chikhutso Rhakho too suggested that electoral roll should be verified and proxy voting should be examined thoroughly to bring changes in the society.

The Chakhesang Public Organization president, Kekhwengulo Lea also mentioned that false findings and the attitude of blaming the legislators and the candidates should be stopped. At the start of CCEM, many had talked about the movement as an impossible movement but he said that CCEM is a possible movement “if we all come out together.”

Meanwhile, Chakhesang Mothers’ Association president, Zaposhelü Venuh voiced that selling/buying and proxy voting should be eliminated and prayed that the movement will be a blessing.

Former CPO president, Yesonu Veyie hailed CCEM for having a vision to change the society. Leaders should be respected and supported to bring about changes, he stated, adding electoral roll should be cleaned first to have clean and peaceful elections.
