DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 27 (MExN): The Concerned Citizens Group (CCG) from across India today issued a statement urging the Government of India to initiate dialogue with all stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir to bring about positive change in policy towards Kashmir’s citizens.

The statement was signed by Yashwant Sinha, former Foreign and Finance Minister; Wajahat Habibullah, former Chairman Minorities Commission; Manish Tewari, former Minister of I&B; Nirupama Rao, former Foreign Secretary; Kapil Kak, Air-Vice Marshal (Retd); V Balachandran, former Special Secretary, Government of India; Badri Raina, writer & academic; Ramchandra Guha, historian & political commentator; Zoya Hasan, Professor of Political Science; Bharat Bhushan, Editor, Catch News; John Dayal, social activist; and Sushobha Barve, Executive Secretary, Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation.

It welcomed the recent statements of the Indian Prime Minister, Home Minister and the BJP leadership on this issue and looked forward to a concrete follow up. The group further suggested that in order to operationalize the well-intentioned statements, it is now necessary for the government to clearly identify the stakeholders, announce the name of an authorized interlocutor, set a timeframe for the beginning and conduct of the dialogue process and start it as soon as possible.

“The encouraging statements by the PM, HM and others hold promise for the Kashmiris. The present opportunity should not be wasted," it urged.
