
Tuensang, April 5 (MExN): The Confederation of Chang Students’ Union (CCSU) on Sunday highlighted the shortage of medical care facilities in Tuensang district and appealed to the Principal Director, Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland, elected legislators of the district and others to contribute towards procuring testing kits for the district.
Stating that Tuensang is geographically placed in a far flung area with inadequate medical care facilities, the CCSU stated in its press release that the district has only one civil hospital equipped with an ICU and only four doctors on duty. It also said that the ventilator in the hospital is not working.
As such, the CCSU appealed to the Principal Director, Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland, elected legislators of the district, bureaucrats, contractors, and well wishers of Tuensang district to contribute in procuring testing kits for the people of the district, while adding that the district needs to be medically well prepared if incase this pandemic virus hits the district.
Meanwhile, the Union applauded the efforts of the Medical Department and Police personnel to fight the virus along with the Tuensang District Administration. It also expressed appreciation to all the organisations and individuals who have come forward to contribute towards the fund drive effort that was initiated by District Administration to provide immediate relief to the families that were badly affected by the total lockdown.
The target groups being destitute, daily wage earners, orphans, stranded students, stranded migrant workers, etc.
Providing updates on the fund drive, it informed that the money raised has been utilized to pay for the relief package (each costing Rs. 453), containing 7 essential items of daily need which has been handed out to over 1000 families as on April 2.
So far a total of Rs 5,23,910 has been received from donors, including both the organisations and individuals.
Besides those, apex tribal bodies like CKS, YTC, KTC and USLP, and IRCS have been actively supporting the District Task Force in every possible way while student bodies led by CCSU are volunteering and making public announcements almost every night urging public to stay indoors.
It said that the Tuensang Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) and Tuensang Town All Wards Union (TTAWU) are assisting District Administration in keeping a strict vigil on possible black marketing activities and ensuring smooth inflow of essential supplies to Tuensang district.
At this juncture when the entire world’s health is at stake and every possible help is sought to fight this virus, the Union “pleads the elected legislators, bureaucrats and contractors of Tuensang district to extend their generosity towards the people,” the release stated.
