The Chang Khulei Setshang (Chang Tribal Council) celebrated its platinum jubilee in Tuensang on December 28 and 29.
On the opening night, Rev Achu Chang, Executive Secretary, Chang Baptist Lashong Thangyen (CBLT) delivered message on the theme ‘Ruminating Legacy.’ Short speeches were delivered by Toyang Changkong, MLA, Thongo Imlong and N Kaimang President, Tuensang Village Council Union.
Earlier, an act titled ‘CKS then and now’ was displayed and welcome address was delivered by Convenor, jubilee planning committee. Song of jubilation was sung by Langa and Lanu of TTBL while Chikung Chisa, one of the oldest among Chang bands rendered a reminiscing composition. Invocation and benediction were graced by Rev T Mongba Pastor, TVBC and Rev Chongshen Pasto CBL, Saksi respectively.
On the second day, Toshi Wungtung, Advisor IPR, SCERT and Village Guard, Government of Nagaland graced the occasion as the special guest of the event and spoke on the theme ‘Celebrating Solidarity.’
“Nungsanglemba Chang is not only an inspiration but a proud leader who has always been like a North Star for the Eastern family of the six tribes and also amongst the 14 Naga tribes of Nagaland,” Wungtung said.
The Advisor while acknowledging the elders of the society stated that they are the guardians and source of wisdom and identity. He also observed, “The Head Gaonburas, Gaonburas and village elders basically are founding members of respective villages and the Dobashis are custodians of the Naga customary law, keepers of our history.” He also said, “No matter how far you go, what you study or what your achievements are, identities have always been my golden hallmark.”
Short speeches were also delivered by Kejong Chang MLA, Kumar Ramnikant DC Tuensang and Chubawati, President, Ao Senden. Sangtam Baptist Church, Tuensang Town presented a choral performance while BYE, TTBL performed a fusion of tradition and choreography-tradigraphy.
Earlier, the unveiling of jubilee monolith was done at CKS Hall by the special guest and the release of doves and unfurling of the flag was led by Haühyang Choba Bagpipe Band.
The jubilee souvenir was released by the special guest. Invocation and benediction prayers were done by L Ongmang Pastor, YBL and Rev N Somba Pastor, DEF Tuensang.
