Churches and civil societies donate utility centre to District Hospital Dimapur

In a fitting memorial to COVID-19 quarantined returnees, a Multi Public Utility Centre constructed under the aegis of the Dimapur Area Ao Baptist Churches and Civil Societies COVID-19 Co-ordination Committee, at District Hospital Dimapur (DHD) premise was dedicated and handed over to the DHD authority here on January 11.

Former NBCC President, Rev L Kari Longchar, who offered the dedicatory prayer also formally, handed over the centre to DHD authority led by Medical Superintendent, DHD, Dr Keveduyi Theyo at a brief dedicatory function.

Convenor of COVID-19 Co-ordination Committee, Supo Jamir, in his welcome address termed year 2020 as the “darkest year in history of mankind where the entire world was crippled by the COVID-19 pandemic.” Jamir said in the midst of the pandemic, the Almighty God spoke to Ao church leaders of Dimapur who then pledged to open a Multi Public Utility Centre along with the help of Ao civil societies.

Making special mention of K Temjem Jamir and Dr Benjon for successful completion of the utility centre, the convenor hoped that the centre would be utilized as a platform for the Church. He also appealed the DHD authority to handle the centre with love and care.

Medical Superintendent, DHD, Dr Keveduyi Theyo, in his note of appreciation conveyed gratitude to the Dimapur area Ao churches and civil societies for gifting the centre for the benefit of all patients and attendants. The Medical Superintendent assured that a committee would be set up to take care of the centre. 

The dedicatory programme was chaired by N Lipok Jamir, president, Dimapur Ao Baptist Pastors’ Fellowship.

According to a note from the Dimapur Area Ao Baptist Churches and Civil Societies COVID-19 Co-ordination Committee, “the Multi Public Utility Centre is a much needed by-product of our initiative of managing three quarantine centres in Dimapur Government College from June 1 to 20, 2020, during the most dreadful emerging period of COVID-19 in Nagaland.”

The facilities provided by the Centre include four toilets (two each for ladies and gents), UV purified drinking water, two bathrooms, taps for hand washing and face washing, mobile charging points and spacious resting shed.
