The Dimapur Traffic Police (DTP) on Wednesday received applause for taking action on those driving in the wrong lane on the Highway.
19 vehicles were seized in Dimapur and penalized for wrong lane driving in the highway. Driver license of the defaulters was also impounded processed for disqualification, according to an update from the DTP on their Twitter account.
Following the post, cittizens cheered DTP for the ‘much needed’ move. “Great job Dimapur Police. SALUTE Hoping that all traffic violators will be penalized,” twitter user @NgullieAremo wrote in reply to the post. Another Twitter user @MeranggOvungg wrote “Keep up the good work.”
“This is it… long felt need,” wrote Khumdemo on Facebook while Neiphre Kotso added, “It’s not an easy job but please let it be a daily affair.”
The NH-29 Purana Bazaar-Chümoukedima stretch has witnessed a string of accidents in the recent past, particularly in December. Following multiple incidents, including one in which a cop was killed while returning from duty, the Dimapur Police started a special enforcement drive against unsafe driving.
Earlier on December 25, the Dimapur Police informed that there were no fatal car accidents along the newly inaugurated National Highway-29 Purana Bazaar-Chümoukedima stretch since December 16 following its ongoing enforcement drive.
