Kohima, September 23 (MExN): Nagaland State Chief Minister TR Zeliang today appealed to land owners where the Dimapur-Kohima railway track is presently under construction not to disrupt the works because of the land compensation issue.
A press release from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) today stated the CM to have said that “demanding unreasonable amount of land compensation and creating of problem on the ongoing railway track construction will defeat the very purpose of development in the long run.”
He appealed to the land owners to be “more reasonable and let the construction continue without any problem in order to let the project complete in time.”
Zeliang was responding to a memorandum submitted by six villages – Sokhuvi, Razaphe Basa, Pimla, Zutovi, Khemnok and Dhansariphar—for review of the rate of land compensation paid to the six villages during the inaugural function of Mhaikam village gate and rostrum today.
The Chief Minister viewed that mega development projects such as railway will bring more benefits to the people in the long run. He urged the six villages to be generous enough to part their land for the said railway project which was the long felt need of the state.
TR Zeliang, however, assured the six villages that he will take up the matter with Indian Railway authority for redressal of their grievances.
It may be mentioned that the ongoing railway track construction was put to halt by the said six villages because of the land compensation issue.
Take advantage of development
Speaking at the inaugural function of Mhaikam Village gate and rostrum, Chief Minister TR Zeliang said that Mhaikam and its surrounding villages have much land development potential with many developmental projects in the offing. He urged the people to take advantage of this through proper planning.
The press release stated that according to the Chief Minister, with the ongoing construction of railway project, slaughter house and proposed highway, the area has immense scope for future growth and progress. He said that if people cooperate, the government has plans to bring in more developmental projects in the area.
“Those who plan properly and utilize their land judiciously will benefit, but those who don’t plan properly now will regret later,” Zeliang said.
The Chief Minister also called upon the people of the area to maintain peace and unity among different communities and work jointly for progress. He said that internecine conflict has never benefited the people. “Peace in the society is the prerequisite for any progress and prosperity,” he noted.
