Nagaland State Chief Minister, TR Zeliang today challenged the students’ community to be in the know about the Naga political issue, and to get involved in the Naga political issue towards finding a lasting solution.

“If you all think that it is a problem concerning only the NNGs, the politicians or for that matter, the elders of the society and that they alone are to bring about solution, then I’m afraid you’re wrong. It is my belief and ardent desire to find a solution and for that a collective effort of all the Nagas and in particular the youth and students like you all is a must,” the CM said while speaking at the 18th Biennial Conference of the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) in Mokokchung today.

He declared ‘proudly’ that this is a golden opportunity for the Nagas and the Government of India to resolve the issue amicably, understanding each other’s difficulties, and find a lasting solution.

“Let me tell you why I say that solution is important for you, my young friends, in the prevailing situation, the scope of economic growth in the state is badly retarded,” Zeliang said.

He cited the “hue and cry amongst young Naga entrepreneurs not able to take off small business enterprises due to intimidation and taxations.” He also pointed out the reluctance of large companies to invest in Nagaland because of the ongoing political problem.

“The answer to these problems, therefore, lies in finding an honorable, acceptable and inclusive solution to the vexed Naga political problem for which, we all must strive”, he stated. In this connection, the Chief Minister challenged the students’ community to get involved as the Naga issue involves the students’ community, the future of the Naga people.

Stating that all the Naga Nationalist Political Groups, except the NSCN (K), are involved in peace talks, he challenged the students to be proactive and even suggested the ANCSU to take it as a resolution in the conference.

The Chief Minister meanwhile assured that he and his cabinet are willing to resign and forgo the elections, if it facilitates an acceptable solution to the Naga issue. In this, he solicited the support of the people, especially the youth.

Naga Students Federation (NSF) President, Kesosul Christopher Ltu, also supplemented the CM’s words and questioned why the NSF cannot be involved in political issue, since the students are the main stakeholders of the future.
