Mon, April 21 (MExN): A two days training on micro finance consultancy for Community Cadres (CCs) of Chen Block was organized by District Mission Management Unit (DMMU) of Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM) at DRDA Resource Centre Mon town on April 17 and 18.
‘Practice dialogue within community’
Wennyei Konyak (NCS), Project Director& District Mission Manager, DRDA Mon, addressing the opening session, encouraged the community cadres to practice dialogue within the community. He said dialogue enables one to open up and develop confidence for smooth functioning of one’s group.
He advised them to guide their SHGs to set targets and march forward by keeping a visionto grow. He gave a strong message upon the SHG leaders to prioritize on practical plans, in other words achievable programs, for initial period then jumping into near-to-impossible dreams. While stressing on the importance of education, he said education empowers a person, for which a person should keep learning new things each day or in any given opportunity.
He reminded the SHGs to put utmost sincerity on record keeping. He advised the community cadres to carry the training forward with all seriousness and take the learning back to one’s own community.
Steps to grow with Bank
W. Chemkai, Branch Manager, Nagaland State Cooperative Bank (NSCB) Mon Branch, speaking as Professional Resource Person (PRP), shared about steps to grow with a Bank. The first step is linking oneself with the Bank by opening a Saving Bank Account. The second step is coming forward to avail credit linkage from the Bank. The third step is to see that loan is recovered regularly and clearing the outstanding balance within the given period. He also shared about the opportunity given by the Banks for public to open PMJDY account, popularly known as ‘Zero Balance’ Account or No Frill Account or Basic Savings Deposit Account, in any Bank.
He encouraged the trainees that they are not just individuals but representative of respective villages. Earlier, he gave an opportunity to the trainees to express their experiences they came across while visiting the Bank Branch for their needs.
SHGs taught on need of awareness
Rajuselie Lhousa, District Coordinator DMMU Mon, District Resource Person (DRP) for thematic area on financial inclusion, also touched on the contents of the training topics, the prospects of SHGs from the financial institutions.
He advised the CCs—monitoring wing of SHGs, to identify the SHGs who are interested to seek for credit linkage in coordination with Are
a Coordinators. A condition was that the SHGs should comply with NRLM guidelines and is graded a good SHG. He shared on the need of awareness that availing credit is a two-way traffic, utilization of the credit on one hand while on the other hand recovery process is continued.
Interaction session
In the interaction session with the Bank official, a member from Chingpong village requested the Bank to put in place good technical equipment and primary requirements so as to avoid the high cost by a customer in visiting bank branch. Members from Chenloisho, Chingkao Chingnyu and Choknyualso actively participated sharing their doubts to the Bank Manager.
Rajuselie Lhousa, DC (FI), NSRLM Mon in a press release stated that others who spoke were M. Hangsa Konyak, ADPM and Manlem Konyak, Block Program Manager of Chen Block. Altogether 32 community cadres from all the 9 recognized villages of Chen RD Block attended the training. The training was supported by the BMMU staff.
