Concert in aid of diabetes awareness camp

Dimapur | January 31 : Dimapur District Diabetes Awareness, an NGO, organized a concert at IMC on January 31 in aid of Dimapur district diabetes awareness camp. Two gospel singers from Mizoram, Maggie and Pennsy were roped in to enthrall the crowd besides other children artist who presented dance items.
Speaking to this reporter, Dr. Abemo Ezung, Associate Director (North East) of Indian Council for Diabetic Care (ICDC) said that the NGO, which focuses on prevention, management and control of diabetes, usually partners with Churches, Social NGOs and other Government agencies in promoting its mission. The ICDC has all the seven sisters of the north east connected to it and camps are organized where prominent diabetologist are invited to give treatments at nominal rates.
The NGO was formed in 2010 October with eight members and they have already conducted three workshops in Dimapur. The NGO also trains volunteers to do field work and thereby reach out to the rural areas. Dr. Abemo also added that India is now considered the headquarters for Diabetes with North East and South India in the ‘High Risk Diabetes Zone.’ Hence the need for camps and workshops, which will help in spreading awareness about the disease, which according to WHO claims lives every ten seconds around the world.
