The Dimapur District Congress Committee in commemoration of the one year anniversary of Bharat Jodo Yatra held an event with its party workers at the Congress Bhavan, Dimapur on September 7. At the same time, the members deliberated on the upcoming state assembly elections, 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the way forward for the party.

Former Minority Affairs Chairman, Rajesh Sethi stated that the motive of the yatra, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, was to fight against communalism, hatred, unemployment, inflation, political centralisation i.e, misuse of state machineries for personal motives by the BJP at the centre and to bring unity among the citizens of the country. This had spanned for 145 days covering the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu Kashmir.

“Due to which the party has witnessed successful results during the Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh State elections,” he claimed.

During the yatra he mentioned that Nagaland Pradesh Congress (NPCC) President, Supong Meren had also made the trek along with other party members to show their solidarity. In Nagaland as well, the yatra had been successfully held at Dimapur and Kohima last year, he said.

In anticipation of the second phase of the yatra, Sethi announced that due to the success of the movement, suggestions had been put up to organise it in Nagaland. “We have put a proposal in this regard so we’re waiting for the confirmation,” he said.

Vice President of NPCC, W Akum Yimkhiung meanwhile viewed that most Naga people have not understood the dynamics between the motive of the Bharat Jodo Yatra and the effects it had on the scenario of the country. “As NPCC workers, it is important to bring our people together by uniting first among ourselves under a reformed leadership,” he said.

Yimkhiung also remarked that under the success of the yatra it was imperative for the state party workers to prepare a plan for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Speeches were also delivered by Er Thomas Konyak, NPCC spokesperson and Javed Sarwar, Chairman of Minority Morcha, NPCC.

Earlier in the day at Kohima, the NPCC had organised a Bharat Jodo Patyatra and Bharat Jodo Sammelan out on the street to mark the occasion which culminated at the Congress Bhavan premises.
