Opposition Congress party on Tuesday submitted a notice of no confidence against the BJP-led coalition government in the Manipur Legislative Assembly.

Sitting Congress MLA K Meghachandra accompanied by his colleague Th Lokeshwor submitted the notice to the state Assembly secretariat, urging Assembly Speaker Y Khemchand to include the no confidence motion in the business list of the monsoon session of the state Assembly.

Few days ago, Manipur Governor Dr Najma Heptullah summoned the monsoon session of the state Assembly which will have only a session on August 10.

After submitting the notice, Meghachandra told reporters that the opposition submitted the notice after the BJP-led coalition government "has failed" to hand over the infamous drug haul case involving former Chandel ADC chairman to the CBI.

In June 2018, a combined team of Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB) and police recovered a huge quantity of heroin of 4.595 kg and World is Yours (WIY) tablets and also  cash, including demonetised notes during a raid at the official residence of the then Chandel ADC chairman Lukhosei Zou.

“Instead of handing over the case to CBI, the chief minister and some leaders of the ruling BJP were trying to save the drug lord,” Meghachandra alleged.

Also speaking to the reporters, Congress MLA Th Lokeshwor alleged that instead of handing over the sensitive drug case to CBI, the BJP-led coalition government is threatening those who came out for justice.
