Kohima, April 15 (MExN): The newly built convent for Sisters of Providence under St. Peter’s Church at Sanis was blessed on April 11 by Rt. Rev. Michael Joseph McKenna, the bishop of Bathurst, Australia. In a separate function on April 12, the newly built church at Razeba was inaugurated and blessed by the same bishop. He was assisted by Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, bishop of Nagaland.
The functions were attended by fathers, sisters and large gathering of lay faithful and public. The function at Razeba was also graced by John Tsilise, Additional District Commissioner of Meluri, Angela, NCWA President, and pastors.
Bishop Michael in his homily at Razeba said that the roads in Nagaland are rough and challenging to travel, a press release from Nagaland bishop’s secretary informed. Similarly, the road to heaven is also challenging and life here on earth is sometimes smooth and sometimes rough, Michael added.
Brother Litsuvi Rume Christopher received the clerical habit during the Mass at Razeba. Bishop James, who presided over the Holy Eucharist, in his homily congratulated the brother for the bold step he has taken to live for the Lord. He urged Brother Christopher to listen to the prompting of the Holy Spirit and follow His call. He also exhorted the gathering to accompany him with their prayers as he journeys towards priesthood. During the occasion, 25 children received the first Holy Communion at St. Ignatius Church Razeba.
Speaking at the felicitation programme at Sanis, Bishop Michael said that 32 years back he had a great desire to come to Nagaland and today that dream has become a reality. He appreciated and marveled at the great singing abilities of the Nagas, the release said.
Meanwhile, Bishop James extended words of appreciation and thanks to Bishop Michael and Mike who accompanied Bishop Michael in his journey for having made it to Nagaland. He also thanked the congregation of Sisters of Providence for accepting to take up the challenge of working in the tough mission at Sanis. Sr. Thressiamma, the provincial superior also spoke on the occasion at Sanis.
