Kohima, March 29 (MExN): Department of Sericulture, Kohima in collaboration with Research Extension Centre, Central Silk Board, Dimapur organised a skill upgradation training programme for stakeholders of Sericulture in ‘Ericulture package of practices’, under IESDP-NERTPS (2018), with the sole purpose of empowering women and creating sustainable livelihood through Ericulture.
Altogether, 500 farmers from various blocks under Kohima District participated in the training which was completed in ten batches from February to March 2018, informed a press release.
The training was conducted explicitly using power point presentation accompanied by on-field demonstrations wherein the farmers got hands-on experience. Various topics were taught during the training where Assistant Sericulure Officer and training co-ordinator, Yingsungbeni Ngully spoke on the importance of Eri silkworm rearing immaculately using the latest technologies where the farmers could enhance their cocoon productivity, Atenjemba, Seri Supervisor highlighted the various host plants of eri and their cultivation scientifically.
Keneizetou Khro, Extension Officer talked about the diseases and Pests of silkworm and host plants and how to take preventive measures, Thepfurokou, Seri Supervisor also spoke on the importance of conducting ideal rearing house for the silkworms. Henwalo Lorin, Extension Agent explained about the economics of ericulture and how the farmers could earn an additional income through sale of by-products of ericulture.
