Chümoukedima, September 27 (MExN): In compliance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, and in observance of Swachhata Hi Seva, the Chümoukedima Town Council (CTC) organised an awareness programme through a flash-mob performance by students of Chümoukedima Dance & Fit Studio at three locations including Saturday Market, Jack & Jill Shopping Mall, and CT Square on September 26.
As pre the DIPR report, the flash-mob was organised to draw the attention of citizens towards the importance of four-way segregation of solid waste and to promote greater public awareness regarding responsible waste management and compliance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.
Lemlila Sangtam, NCS, ADC (HQ) and Executive Officer, CTC, said that the programme was aimed at making solid-waste management a firm, civic-minded and accountability-driven public responsibility. She emphasised that effective implementation of the SWM Rules requires the active participation and cooperation of every citizen.
She further highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in keeping the town clean and stressed adherence to the “Polluter Pays” principle, under which those responsible for generating pollution and waste are expected to bear the appropriate responsibility for its management.
The awareness programme sought to encourage citizens to move beyond merely disposing of waste and instead adopt responsible practices such as segregating waste at source, reducing waste generation and ensuring proper disposal.
The CTC called upon all citizens, commercial establishments, institutions and other stakeholders to extend their cooperation towards building a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Chümoukedima.
