DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 20 (MExN): The Chumoukedima Village Council (CVC) has issued a public notice cautioning against referring to the Tsiedukhru range as “Pagala Pahar,” terming the usage of the slang term “disparaging” and “offensive.”
In the notice, the CVC stated that “despite repeated public clarifications to refrain from referring to the Tsiedukhru range as ‘Pagala Pahar,’ it is disheartening that several media houses, social media users, and YouTubers continue to use this disparaging term.” It added that the Tsiedukhru Range holds deep traditional and historical significance for Chumoukedima and its natives, being closely tied to the village’s folklores and legends.
“Reducing a revered place of heritage to a slang term is not only offensive but also an intentional attempt to undermine and belittle the village’s history,” the notice said.
The CVC explicitly stated that henceforth, “any person, group, or agency using the slang ‘Pagala Pahar’ in reference to the Tsiedukhru Range shall face appropriate legal action or punitive measures as deemed fit under customary practice.”
