CYO issues advisory for social media users

Dimapur, April 18 (MExN): Taking cognizance of the misuse of social media and increase in dissemination of fake news, the Chakhroma Youth Organization (CYO) issued an advisory for all Chakhroma members as wells as any individuals or groups in Chakhroma jurisdiction while engaging in the digital world. The advisory which was issued on Saturday restricted members from circulating/forwarding news, pictures, videos or any other documents from unverified sources. Do not spread/ disseminate news, information in individual capacity, it said, adding that in case any information needs to be publicized, once can do so only after authorized bodies/ Organizations has officially approved it.


It urged members to engage in social media platforms responsibly by avoiding use of language that will hurt the sentiments of other communities(racism, tribalism) and refraining from making comments/videos/voice notes targeting other religions (religious intolerance).


Kindly report to the right authority about posts, videos or documents that are inappropriate or false or harmful for the society, instead of sharing it further, the CYO appealed. The CYO also urged its members to be well aware and engage in social media as per the advisory of the Police department and directed its Units to follow and execute the advisory in their own jurisdictions.
Further, the Organisation reminded its members to follow the COVID-19 lockdown order and precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the pandemic by maintaining hygienic practices, practising social distancing and not to venture out unless for emergencies.
