Expresses serious concern over ‘continued barring of entry and exit’ of those on frontline or essential services providers by several colonies and villages despite repeated appeals
Dimapur, April 20 (MExN): Dimapur Deputy Commissioner Anoop Khinchi today expressed serious concern on the “continued barring of entry and exit of people working in the frontline or providing essential services, by several colonies and villages despite repeated appeals made by the District administration.”
Addressing a meeting of the Dimapur District Task Force (DTF) members today, the DC reiterated that strict action will be initiated and warned that cases would be registered against those obstructing movement of frontline workers, according to a DIPR report. Frontline workers are encouraged to report such instances, he added.
While social organisations have very important role during such situations, "Instead of people guarding the village or colonies in groups it is always better to stay at home and maintain social distance and be safe,” the DC is quoted as saying. The report stated that the DC appealed to the NGOs, GBs or village councils for sensitising and educating the people in their respective colonies or villages.
According to the DIPR, Dimapur Chief Medical Officer and Medical Superintendent also expressed similar concerns.
On this, the CMO stated that since the conversion of Dimapur District Hospital into a COVID-19 hospital, patients with other health problems have to depend on the private hospitals. However, the CMO highlighted the plight of private hospitals and said that the hospitals are also finding it hard to function, as their workers are facing movement problems. If this continues, he viewed that private hospitals will have to close down, leaving other patients in the lurch.
Apprehension on burial of COVID-19 patients
Seeking to address concerns on burials in case of death of COVID-19 patients, the CMO is said to have explained the protocol for burials of such cases to the DTF members so that people can be educated on this issue. He clarified that dead bodies, after being disinfected by the medical team, can be taken by the relatives for burial or cremation.
“The only restriction is that the dead body should not be touched by the family members. Once all burial protocols are followed, there is nothing to worry,” he added.
According to the DIPR report, the current system for wholesale markets will be continued till further orders.
Meanwhile, the DC appreciated and expressed satisfaction over the manner in which the lockdown has been enforced presently in Dimapur and said all precautionary measures are being taken to contain the corona virus.
Further, he said that Dimapur COVID-19 Hospital is fully geared up and equipped, and ready to take patients.
With cooperation from all sectors, we will definitely be able to defeat COVID-19, he maintained.
