The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Zunheboto, held its 1st Quarterly DDMA and Pre-Monsoon Preparedness Meeting at the DC Conference Hall on June 11 under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner and DDMA Chairman, Dharam Raj, IAS.
The meeting reviewed department wise preparedness measures ahead of the monsoon season. Various departments presented their readiness plans and response mechanisms to address possible emergencies during the rainy season.
During the meeting, officials from the Veterinary office mentioned that there are no positive cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Zunheboto District so far, as no samples have been tested. “However, we have been receiving information regarding pig deaths in some colonies and villages in Zunheboto” they noted, adding that ASF remains endemic in the region and called for continued vigilance.

Emphasising the need for prompt disaster response, the Deputy Commissioner directed the SDRF and Fire & Emergency Services personnel to remain on standby throughout the monsoon season and advised departments against granting large-scale leave that could affect emergency response capacity.
The DC also stressed the importance of ensuring reliable 24x7 power supply with appropriate voltage for essential services and government offices during the monsoon period. He further called for greater public awareness on disaster preparedness and urged concerned agencies to ensure adequate stock of essential commodities in Zunheboto Town, noting that it serves as the main supply hub for the entire district.
“Town council has to ensure that there is enough supply essentially in the town because Zunheboto town is the feeder to the entire District and awareness should be conducted at a regular basis” Raj Added.
