Dear Readers, in the backdrop of the recent Nagaland Board of School Education Class 10 and Class 12 exam results, these are some practical measures Nagaland Government should adopt to improve performances of Government schools:

•    Here are some of my points of view regarding the government schools to improve in Nagaland: The Government should focus on recruitment of qualified educators and also on quarterly training to enhance their skills and knowledge to impart to their respective students at school; To enhance infrastructure: as we see poor infrastructure facilities in most of the government schools: e.g. broken windows, doors, desk, tables,  no proper toilet facilities, and also to provide quality teaching materials: if we refer the textbooks used by private school and textbooks used by government schools in lower section it has got a huge difference because the books which are read and studied by class 3,4 of government schools can be easily understood by private school studying at class 1 or 2 and we all know that the house which has a strong foundation is strong enough to stand against harsh winds, heat and rain; likewise students need to have a strong foundation from the primary section which is to be supported by providing better quality teaching materials. I believe these few measures can enhance educational outcomes and ensure quality education for students.

•    Department of School Education in Nagaland is always on the media for negative impact. However, coming of Samagra Shiksha and interventions by NECTAR has initiating lot of developmental projects to uplift the educational system in Nagaland. For instance special schools grants for all the schools which has brought tremendous improvement in school, implementation of ECCE new curriculum that has been introduced this year, new track suit uniforms for pre primary sections, tablets to primary teachers for using in classroom transaction and many ongoing observations and monitoring the schools. Therefore, it will take time to reap the fruit since the department is focusing from the grassroot level but let us hope that in few years time even the government schools will be equally performing well like any private institutes. We can always take good example of Delhi Government schools. It is possible.

•    1. More efforts should be taken into account in the rural areas be it a private or any government institute. 2. As we have seen in some of the results of rural area institutes with less than 10 students or so appearing the exams have shown completely nil performance, Village councils and teachers must approach in guiding these students to the core.

•    To improve performance of Government schools, the foundation has to be made strong i.e. at primary level. All primary schools should be ensured proper infrastructure and quality teachers. The biggest tragedy of Nagaland today is rampant appointment of primary school teachers through backdoor. We are destroying the future generations of Nagaland due to such teachers.

•    There should be no backdoor appointment of teachers. It is criminal and an injustice for generations of students in the State to be deprived of the most deserving teachers and quality teaching.

•    Incorporate more real world context instead of rote learning. Enable and give students the tool to find answers themselves, lead them to the answer but don’t deliver it on a silver plate. That’s what British levels do.

•    Innovative Mindset

•    Good infrastructures and terminate the Government teachers who didn’t even pass class 12.

•    If the foundation is good I feel the student will excel better. I see most of them cannot even read properly even in high school level. So those teachers at the elementary, primary level should first lay a strong foundation and not take their work lightly.

•    I think even the Biometrics is not really helping to curved out the proxy teaching, they should find and alternative way and communitization may look good on paper but it doesn't add up proper out come. The department should follow according to their own proper rules and regulations. To a certain extent, further studies leave may grant but it should be more than the required time period for studies leave. Unless the Government provides good infrastructures, they cannot force the teachers to send their children to Government schools.

•    Treat them like higher secondary level not college level invest more on remedial classes.

•    Scholarship

•    To improve all the government teaching stuff should send to other country for training like the Delhi government did

•    Making compulsory rules for every Government employee to let their child study in govt schools from nursery to secondary.

•    Both teachers and parents unchecked the students performance.

•    According to me, some of the ways to improve our Government schools, limit setting up of schools, proportionate school to population size of an area, close down low enrolment schools, transfer excess Teachers to a school acutely in need but in bulk for a piece meal offering will not help the school, nor the transferred employee. Next remove the no detention policy in letter and spirit from the grass root level. Prioritise remedial measure of Educative steps to severely handicapped students(those working as helpers) and lastly our School Education Department should stop following each and everything of what the Ministry mandates, Our Department has enough qualified intellectuals from the Zenith to the nadir to tackle our unique problems. God bless Nagaland.

•    Too many unqualified and backdoor teacher appointment in the past. Until they retire and the post are filled by deserving candidates, no opai - infrastructure, facilities eku kaam nai.

•    Send all the children of rich, educated parents to Government schools. You will definitely see the results.

•    Promoting every student's should not be practiced. In this area i.e. promotion of students we should go back to our old system. Too many students are taking studies too lightly. And don't talk about compartmental exams. Making things so easier for students but we are creating lazy people.
