DIMAPUR, APRIL 17 (MExN): The Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union (DENSU) has appealed to the Nagaland Government to expedite the installation of equipment for testing laboratories in the State so as to enable speedy testing results.
A press release from the DENSU media cell also asked the concerned authority to provide safety equipment to frontline workers like doctors, nurses and other medical assistants, including police personnel.
While appreciating the efforts being made by the State Government and the district administration, the DENSU asked that the difficulties faced by the public, especially daily wage earners, private employees and students residing in rental accommodations.
“The availability of essential commodities both perishable and non perishable is at scarce in the market and the prices of the same have gone high,” it said. The union said that wholesalers have turned into retail shops due to shortage of supplies.
“Price of face masks cost Rs 30-50 for transparent and single layer material (temporary use). It is pertinent to mention that during this crucial time of lockdown, where many people can barely procure food, buying face mask for Rs 30-50 would be very difficult,” it pointed out. The DENSU urged the administration to provide hand sanitisers and face masks to the poor and needy free of cost.
It further stated that providing 3-5 kilos of rice once in the total 40 day’s lockdown to daily wage earners, stranded students etc is inadequate.
