Dimapur, April 29 (MExN): Nagaland Minister for Higher Education and Tribal Affairs Temjen Imna Along inaugurated and unveiled the plaque of the Library building at Dimapur Government College on Friday. 

Addressing the gathering at the inaugural programme, Minister Imna called for making the library a center of excellence and a center of knowledge. Observing that Dimapur Government College has become an institute of repute, the Minister credited all the stakeholders including the faculty, the parents and also the past pupils.

As per a DIPR report, he pointed out that all the infrastructures under Higher Education are of standard workmanship and went on to say, “If we want to see Nagaland beautiful, we have to be pragmatic and practical.”

Imna Along also revealed that approximately 33,000 students pursue their studies in Government and Private colleges in Nagaland, while around 35,000 students study outside Nagaland, noting that massive GDP was spent outside the State. He called for collective endeavour for making Nagaland a vibrant state that is inclusive, prosperous and at the forefront of the Nation.

He assured that requirements for making the building a true library would be looked into.

The DIPR report stated that Director for Higher Education Katoni Jakhalu expressed appreciation to the Minister for his unflinching support and initiatives towards Higher Education. She also thanked the State project Director, RUSA, Menuokholie Kire, the contractor and all the team members for the quality workmanship.

The State Project Director RUSA (Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan) Kire informed that Dimapur Government College, Library project was under RUSA phase II, with a funding pattern of 90:10 basis, while Executive Engineer, Hukato informed that the Library building was constructed at a cost of Rs 2 crore covering 623 plinth area with a sitting capacity of 70 to 80 students.

The inaugural programme was chaired by Principal DGC, Dr M Libanthung Ngullie while Pastor DABA offered the dedicatory prayer.

The college anthem was presented by DGC, EU while vote of thanks was proposed by Librarian, DGC, Neiketu Siam. Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan, the contractor, invitees, Faculty staff and students of DGC attended the programme, according to the DIPR.
