Differently-abled children exhibit talents at Umang festival

Differently-abled children from five inclusive schools today exhibited their talents at Umang Festival- Nagaland held here at State Academy Hall.

It was organized by North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) in collaboration with Cherry Blossoms Society under the aegis of Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India.

The festival is part of Government of India’s national policy for persons with disabilities.

The basic objective of Umang festival is to encourage the differently-abled children to exhibit their talents and also to provide opportunities for them to interact with other children. The festival also aims to create awareness about the issues faced by persons suffering from disabilities in any form.
 
‘Every child is a flower created by God’

Gracing the occasion, Kavita Acharya, wife of Nagaland’s governor said that Umang word itself is a meaningful ‘Hope’ for all Divyang children who are physically challenged coming together and participating in the cultural event is a special occasion for all those children.

The organizers’ efforts, the teachers and parents hard work and mainly the children enthusiastic participation with enjoyment is really special to be mentioned.

She said every child is a flower created by God and have a role to play as a useful living being.

“Children, you are talented. With hard work, sincerity and innocence you are living a life of value and give happiness to all. We love you children,” she said.

Atoli Sema, joint director social welfare department also spoke on the occasion.

She urged all the Inclusive Schools to take more step and bring differently- abled children to equality.

The festival witnessed presentation of dances, skits, and songs from the students of Bumble Bee Inclusive School, Cherry Blossoms School, G. Rio School, Jo Foundation and Tabitha Enabling Academy.
