Dimapur, June 11 (MExN): More than 600 census officers, supervisors and enumerators from Dimapur district are undergoing intensive training as preparations gather pace for the Digital Census 2027, the eighth census to be conducted in India since Independence.

The training programme, organised by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer, Dimapur, commenced on June 11 at the Livingstone Foundation College of Nursing, Dimapur, and is being conducted in batches.

Addressing the participants, Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer, Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, NCS, said around 600 supervisors and enumerators would undergo intensive three-day training in batches from June 11 to 25 to ensure the successful conduct of Census 2027.

Describing the participants as fortunate to be entrusted with the important national exercise, he urged them to regard the assignment as both a privilege and a responsibility.

Recalling his involvement in the 2011 Census while serving as Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) in Dimapur, Dr. Chang highlighted the importance of the census in shaping government policies, welfare programmes and development planning.

He informed that the first phase, House Listing Operations, will be conducted from July 1 to 31, 2026, while the second phase, Population Enumeration, will take place in February 2027.

Emphasising the need for accuracy, Dr. Chang urged enumerators and supervisors to ensure that households provide correct information, noting that census data forms the basis for socio-economic assessments and the implementation of government schemes.
