DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 9 (DIPR): The 3rd Dimapur district interdepartmental sports week got underway today November 9 at the Multi Purpose Stadium near DC Court.
Gracing the inaugural function as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Dimapur; KesonyuYhome, in his brief address said that the main aim of organising the departmental sports week was to create better coordination amongst various department besides fun.
The annual event is not an optional drill but an event to improve camaraderie and coordination between various departments, Kesonyu maintained. He conveyed his best wishes to all the participants and encouraged them to play with sportsmanship spirit. The DC declared the opening of sports meet and the first match in Badminton event(double) was played between DC Dimapur KesonyuYhome and SDO (C) Zakabo verses Huska and Kahovi from DPRO Dimapur Office.
On the occasion, GM, DIC speaking on behalf of the district officers also conveyed good wishes to all the participants. Associate Pastor, Dimapur Lotha Baptist Church, YanbemoOvung offered the invocation prayer while EAC SardarRongsenmenla chaired the programme.
During the 2 days sports event competition will be held in various track and field events and indoor games. In badminton event, a total of 61 participants comprising of 44 male and 17 female will be playing while in table tennis total of 61 players comprising of 44 male and 17 females representing various departments will be playing.
