Dimapur, December 15 (MExN): “Nagas are no less than a divided house with so many organisations having different wishes and principles whereas the Indian government is aware of our shortcomings, leading to failed breakthrough in negotiations till today,” observed Advisor, Sericulture, Excise & Minority Affairs Zhaleo Rio, IAS (Retd) while inaugurating the new building of Dhansiripar Sub-division GB's Union on December 15.

In his speech, Zhaleo asserted, “we should acquire knowledge about the Naga struggle and our aspiration for sovereignty whatsoever, but warned that divisive policies will always continue to be stumbling blocks unless Nagas unite and speak together as one.”

He expressed that the central government is committed for a permanent settlement of the Naga imbroglio at the earliest possible time, stated a press release issued by Thejangukho Yalietsu, Media Secretary, NDPP 5 Ghaspani-II A/C.

Meanwhile, Zhaleo complimented the united efforts of everyone concerned in building the new complex. He went on to add that transparency in fund management too must have aided the construction processes and urged people to practice austerity measures in their daily lives. Zhaleo mused that Dhansiripar was lucky to have been a beneficiary under MPLADP 2018-19 for construction of the hall. He requested the authority to properly utilise and maintain its upkeep for the welfare of the subdivision.

Stating that GBs are the guardians of customary law, he noted that the term was introduced by Britishers and conferred the title on respectable people of villages based on age and experience rooted in culture, leadership capability, meritorious qualities, etc. "Being the custodians of our customs and culture, our GBs should strive to unite people and deliver unbiased justice on all fronts which can bring manifold blessings," he remarked, while urging GBs to remain vigilant against any antisocial elements in their respective villages since they are "the eyes and ears of the government."
