Some of those who voted YES had this to say:
• To some extent yes. But one still don’t really feel “my police” “my protector.” Mostly perceived as roughshod guards of somebody else and not gentleman keeper of the law. As a citizen I have utmost respect for this institution and even admire them. Police also need to realize they are there for the taxpayers and by the taxpayers and not the stooge of some “leaders” who behave like warlords.
• Yes, when crimes are committed majority of the cases are solved quickly and the accused are apprehended.
• A sense of safe and secureness is what I feel, when police personnel are stationed or are patrolling around (whether in public places & gathering, concert, game match, etc..). Yes, sometimes its annoying to get their rude feedbacks and quotionaries round, frisking but I feel they are doing so for our safety. Whenever there is a shootout/crimes related, they are the one to mobilise the situation. We cannot expect them to be 24/7 100% monitoring on every nooks and corners but with little more co-operation between the public and personnel, a society can be given a facelift. It is for sure, there is always a black sheep in a family to defame but still then, I Salute. Peace!
• I think I would say I dont feel safe cent percent but i believe they are doing their best to reduce crime rate despite odd n unfavourable working condition at their disposal.
Some of those who voted NO had this to say:
• No, the police dont really care about public safety. Most of them are just there to make a quick buck or two and move around under heavy escort. There is no sense of ethics and professionalism in Nagaland police. They do not have any sense of public trust and only cater to the politicians, bureaucrats and senior police officers. Its a shame that the Nagaland police which once prided itself to be a honest, competent and effective force, has been reduced to rubles. Something must be done to it before it is too late.
• Not very effective.
• Absolutely not.. Even they themselves are not civilized n how Can they get respect??
• No, sadly police are puppets of so called undergrounds in nagaland.
• The IRB is effective, but Nagaland Police is sleeping.
• Give these IRBs a bottle each of horse RUM n IMFL for the night..they will let u go.
• IRBs and Mahilas.....they r a lot of frustrated youth in the streets seeking thrills of bashing up anyone making a slightest contortion of their faces. All they seek is trouble for their thrills. Mahilas are no further behind their male counterparts.
• Now people are scared of seeing policemen in streets rather than feeling secured seeing them especially at night.
• SAFE? What safe....these Nagaland police are a bunch of jokers in dress.
• No, police are not available when they are needed the most.
• Most of the police personnel, officers are deaf . . . . To the crime happening around them.
• Ummmm...for me its a NO because every time i see the Police i see them drunk and frisking the people around or i'l see them near our states self proclaimed liquor shops(Amazes me!!). How then can we say that they are checking crimes?? Actually because of that people dont have trust on them and encourages them to indulge in unlawful activities!!!
• If we speak in terms of their effectiveness, it's negative, more or less. Though many are upright, the bulk of them are not dedicated but just doing what others do because they're bound to. It's out of compulsion and therefore, they go haywire on any unaccounted privilege.
• Safe n believe in these monsters at large? These r ogres in human mould with devils heart in Khaki dresses. They do not deserve to man the streets in lieu of maintaining law n order (my foot).
• No they are not. Like someone said it above they're just doing it for show purpose, just because they had to do it or else they're not at all dedicated. May be scared of politicians or Undergrounds in doing their duties, these days the police department is just brought up only for show. It's a shame.
• The other day i saw a IRB jawans beating a guy into smithereens without any muse. These policeman n women should learn how to be civilised. All of them are semi-literate and so they let out frustration over some poor fellas. Mahilas are also scene creators rather than 4 security. They really need to learn ettiques n manners.
• No, they are unsafe too.
• Most of the Police officers don't even know how to handle the situation when it comes to fulfilling their duties, it's amazing how they got the job in the first place. It's funny when you come to witness such situations. Some instruct you to settle the issue between yourself and not to make the matter worse, what kind of stupid suggestion is that? And so many of them don't have even a little bit of courtesy, or respect for other civilians even towards older people. And some are so uncivilised too. They think that they own Nagaland since they're the policemen. It doesn't mean that if they're the police they should be right, sometimes they too make mistakes (many a times they make mistakes). And when the do, they should apologise. Why should they not?
• No, there is nobody safe nor his property and every one lives in fear of reprisal from a pseudo ruling influential NPF party member for this 10 long years you know what I meant, the only function of the police in Nagaland is to escort CM and his camaraderie and patrolling on road side and highway. I have been robbed 3 to 4 times in Kohima at my residence, filed FIR but to no avail. No one is safe and a good example of bad police ultimately shows its ugly head leading to 1 September 2012 incident due to an incident of thieves at Kohima. Let people vote and select the right leaders this time around party is not the issue but its leaders are the issue no matter which party is voted to power.
• All of these policemen are abusing their power to beat up innocent person without any rhyme n reason. They r all a frustrated lot lurking around town to find trouble n getting the benefit of bribery instead of looking to protect the public. This is from the bottom of my heart as i had face of brunt of these illiterate policemen.
• The intricacy of deceptions n scandals deep into the mines of police forces in nagaland is as deep as Atlantic. The bribes, unwanted warrants for briberies, checkposts just for pocket money...involves the Home Minister to the havildar at the check gate. With all this knowledge...can we feel secure n safe lest believe in their presence for our security? They all need to be paraded naked n skinned.
• They all works for money, they only thinks their job in terms of money.
• No. The way Nagaland Police acts is unacceptable in our state today. “The wrong person in right place.”
• In nagaland, when a fellow student who cannot pass the 10th std or those not studying beyond that joins the army...there they find all their seniors who have the same history as theirs. There is no mannerisms, characters, and features of a policemen in these bird-brain fellows. As such, they are letting out their frustrations on the public by abusing their guns n lathis without much reasoning nor rhymes.
• As the police r checking-the goose wild fruit to get without any going to cut that disrupt the eatable tree.
Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:
• The decision-makers, whether they are ministers, MLAs, bureaucrats and police officers, don’t understand the fear and insecurity in which the people are living. All these big officers are well guarded, their houses are like fortresses, and they are well connected to the Undergrounds. It is almost like a nexus of power. They move around in escorts and are always guarded by armed guards. So when the public raises the issue of public security and rising crime, they are indifferent and cannot comprehend the sentiments of the ordinary people. How then can we expect these people to care for the security of the public, when they don’t know what the public are experiencing? These days the crime rate in places like Dimapur and Kohima are increasing rapidly. With unemployment, inflow of immigrant population and rising poverty, this has only created room for more crime to occur in our society. The police needs to come up with a clear plan to tackle crime.
• Our Nagaland Police may be effective outside of Nagaland state, but in Nagaland they don’t seem to measure up. They are not efficient enough and don’t seem to be keen in solving problems.
• Unless the government shows seriousness in dealing with crime and law and order situation, it is unlikely that the police force will improve. There is no professionalism whatsoever and this means the public cannot trust the police to deliver. The situation in Nagaland requires a more competent and professional police force, if not, it is going to be reduced to a mafia land.
