DoSE invites students for Young Scientist Programme

Dimapur, February 28 (MExN): The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched a special programme for school children called ‘Young Scientist Programme’ in tune with the Government of India’s vision ‘Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan.’  

The programme is primarily aimed at imparting basic knowledge on space technology, space science and space applications to the younger ones with the intent of arousing their interest in the emerging areas of Space activities. 

The programme will be of around two weeks duration (April-May 2019) and will include invited talks, experience sharing by the eminent scientists, access to R&D labs, exclusive sessions for discussions with experts, practical and feedback sessions. The selected students will be accommodated in ISRO guest houses/hostels. Expenditure towards the travel of students (II AC fare by train from nearest Railway Station to the reporting centre and back), course material, lodging and boarding etc., during the entire course will be borne by ISRO.

In this regard, Wonthungo Tsopoe, Director of School Education, Nagaland in a press release stated that it is proposed to select three students who have completed 8th standard and currently studying in 9th standard to attend the programme. Therefore, concerned school heads may collect the prescribed application forms by sending email to: director.se.nagaland@gmail.com. Filled in application forms along with required documents should be submitted at the Directorate of School Education (Room No.18), Kohima on or before March 15.

Students will be selected on the basis of academic performance in class 8 (50% weightage), extracurricular activities (30% weightage) and locality of schools (rural schools located in panchayath area 20 % weightage). The selected students will be informed through their schools.
