Eastern-Command chief commited to protect territorial borders

Army men conferred gallantry awards

Kohima, February 17 (MExN): GOC-in-C Eastern Command MM Naravane has affirmed that the Eastern Command in its operational fronts is committed to protecting the territorial integrity of the borders also pushing for infrastructural improvement in the border areas.

The army chief who was addressing the investiture Ceremony held at Kolkata on February 16 also informed that interactions between the Chinese and Indian Armies have been cordial with no major flare ups. He also informed that the Chinese army has proposed to conduct sporting events inside their territory at designated military camps/bases.

“It shows positive impact of various Confidence Building Measures (CBMs).” 

He further stated that the Counter insurgency situation is in control. 

Meanwhile, Army Personnel were conferred gallantry medals. The awards were given away by the GOC-in-C Eastern Command, a press release from PRO (Defence) informed.

The investiture Ceremony is conducted once a year in all Commands to confer various awards for personnel who have distinguished themselves by acts of individual gallantry an exceptional dedication to duty. 

This year One Yudh Seva Medal, Ten Sena Medals (Gallantry), One Bar to Sena Medals (Distinguished) and Twelve Vishisht Seva Medals were presented during the occasion.

18 units of Eastern Command were also awarded the Unit Appreciation which included 10 Infantry Battalions, two Artillery Regiments, two Engineer Regiments, one Aviation Squadron, One ASC Battalion and two Assam Rifles Battalions for exemplary professional performance. He later interacted with the award winners and their families.
