
DIMAPUR, APRIL 15 (MExN): The Eastern Konyak Union (Myanmar) today stated that villages in the Indo-Myanmar border are suffering with no access to essential commodities as all border roads have been sealed since February 2020.
A press release from the union stated that crossing the border is the only way for many villages to buy their supplies.
Since February, the eastern Konyak people have not be able to buy essential commodities in the border villages in Longwa, Chenmo, Chen Loisho and Wangti, the union informed.
West of the border, NGOs, Minister, MLA,well-wishers and central government are looking after the public while in the Myanmar side, the Myanmar government is providing basic necessities, it informed.
However, it rued that people in the border are yet to be reached by the government or NGOs. People are suffering and there is fear of the pandemic, the union stated.
The union called upon legislators and civil society, especially in the Indian side of the border to allow the public to buy from shops located across the border. It further appealed to the Minister, MLA, MP Administrator, Chairman and Naga NGOs from Naga Self-Administered Zone Sagaing Division, Myanmar to take measures preventing the spread of COVID-19 in the area.
