DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 16 (MExN): The Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA) has expressed solidarity with the agitating RMSA 2016 batch teachers, urging the Nagaland government to immediately address their demands for justice and equality.
In a statement, the YAA said the agitation involves 367 teachers serving in 233 government schools across Nagaland, who have continued to impart education despite uncertainties. It said the “flagrant disregard” of their rights necessitates urgent government intervention.
Quoting the phrase, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” the YAA said it supports the teachers’ demand for scale pay in line with their counterparts. “Equal remuneration for equivalent work must be upheld. Immediate steps should be taken to fulfill these demands,” the statement read.
The association also reminded that the Supreme Court has upheld the Gauhati High Court’s judgment directing the State to grant scale pay to the teachers, and said the order must be implemented without delay.
“The government’s prompt action will resolve the issue, boost teacher morale, and ensure stability in the education system,” YAA said, warning that failure to act would bring reputational repercussions. It further said if the genuine demands remain unaddressed, the YAA would pursue all avenues to ensure justice and hold the government and department concerned responsible for the crisis.
