Farmer’s training on ‘value addition of horticultural crops’ at Hekhshe

Dimapur, March 29 (MExN): AICRP (Vegetable Crops Nagaland Centre, SASRD, NU under TSP (Tribal Sub Plan) conducted a farmer’s training on ‘value addition of horticultural crops’ at adopted village Hekheshe on March 27.  

The objective of the training was to make the farmers aware on the importance and high demand of value-added products of horticultural crops in the market and teach them some ways as to how they can make a variety of delicious products and make good money out of the surplus of their harvest. It also aimed at teaching them the importance of labeling and packaging of value added products which has become the foremost need of the hour to catch the market and promote their own products.  

It was stated in a press release that the inaugural programme was graced by Dr. Rokolhuü Keditsü, Assistant Professor, Department of Horticulture, SASRD, NU.  

After the inaugural function, Technical session-I on ‘Preparation of Chilli pickle and Brinjal pickle’ was delivered and demonstrated by Dr. Rokolhuü Keditsü, Assistant Professor, Department of Horticulture, SASRD, NU. Technical session-II on ‘Squash and Jam preparation’ was also demonstrated by Dr. Rokolhuü Keditsü.  

Dr. Moakala Changkija conducted the wrap-up and feedback from farmers where the farmers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to AICRP-Vegetable Crops, SASRD: NU for conducting such useful training in their village and creating awareness among the villagers. During the wrap-up, the farmers were distributed packages consisting of various items required during processing and also seeds of summer vegetable crops.

The training was attended by 71 farmer participants from Hekheshe village. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Waluniba, Dr. Aastik Jha and Dr. Moakala Changkija.
