A fire broke out along a trekking route to Dzükou valley on Tuesday afternoon, rapidly spreading to the surrounding areas. Huge clouds of smoke were seen billowing into the air from villages in the Southern Angami region.

Officials of the Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) informed that the fire broke out in the trekking route from Viswema (Mt Tempfü) towards the valley. The officials clarified that the fire did not affect the main Dzükou valley area.

SAYO volunteers rushed to the affected area to contain the fire immediately after the incident was reported around 2:30 pm. At the time of filing this report, continuous efforts were on to douse the fire and according to SAYO officials, it has been mostly contained.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and an enquiry/investigation has been initiated, the officials added.
