Fires break out in Kohima, Dimapur & Wokha

KOHIMA, APRIL 6 (MExN): Two forest fires were reported in Kohima, one fire incident was reported in Dimapur and another was reported in Wokha within a span of four days from April 3 to 6. 


In Kohima, a forest fire broke out at around 12:45pm at Lerie, below the Heliport in Kohima. The Fire Station Kohima South was mobilized and the blaze was brought under control at 2:19pm. Few stretches of jungle and Fields were destroyed. Yet another call was received at 2:40pm from the same area i.e. Lerie, near Solid Waste Management Authority Ltd. The fire was brought under control at 3:33pm.Both the response teams were led by Duty Commander, SI YimleiPhom. 


The cause of the fire is suspected to be burning of forest by unknown persons. 


In another fire Incident during the early hours of April 4, Fire & Emergency Services mobilised a quick response team from Fire Station Dimapur Central on receiving a fire call at Purana Bazar, near Honda Showroom under the Duty Commander, ASI Neiphretuo. One furniture house was completely gutted. Fortunately, there were no occupants at the house.  The cause of the fire incident is suspected to be short circuit.  The fire was brought under  control quickly and prevented from spreading further. 


Meanwhile, at Lanzunphen, Merapani road, Wokha, a fire broke out on April 3 at 8:24pm. A quick response team from Fire Station Wokha was mobilized to control the Fire. However due to difficult terrain and impending darkness, the fire was brought under control only on April 4. Few kilometres stretch of forest land, orchard and plantation of cash crops were destroyed in the incident. The cause of the fire is suspected to be a garbage fire.  The response team was led by Keleseho S Tsukru, OC, Fire Station,Wokha and Duty Commanders, SI Akumba and ASI Hayang. No casualty was reported.
