Acknowledging its limitations and mistakes, the forum says Sorry and seeks Forgiveness
DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 25 (MExN): The Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) on Thursday responded to the recent appeal by the Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs), urging all stakeholders to participate in the upcoming reconciliation meeting in Zunheboto.
In its statement, FNR welcomed the communiqué titled “An Appeal to FNR and Sumi Apex Bodies,” describing it as “not merely correspondence, but a moral and spiritual reminder, one that calls us to reflect, to reckon, and to respond with sincerity and courage.”
The FNR acknowledged its own limitations over the years, saying, “It is not a matter of ‘if’ the FNR has erred, we have made mistakes. And so, the FNR says sorry, and we seek forgiveness from the Naga people not conditionally, not hypothetically, but truthfully.” Since its formation in 2008, the FNR said it has worked alongside the Naga people “not as perfect companions, but as fellow learners and sojourners,” noting that public trust and resilience have shaped its journey. The forum highlighted that the Naga Reconciliation process gained momentum earlier this year with the suggestion to include Naga tribe hohos, further strengthening the reconciliation effort.
The FNR cited previous meetings hosted by tribal organizations as examples of solidarity and confidence-building- the Angami Public Organisation in Jotsoma on July 24, 2025, and the Ao Senden in Ungma on August 23, 2025. The upcoming September 27 meeting in Zunheboto, hosted by the Sumi Hoho, is “in continuation to building solidarity, confidence and mutual trust, not just among the NPGs, but between the Naga tribes.”
The forum made a direct appeal, saying, “Let us come together in Zunheboto and give a renewed chance to the future of the Naga political destiny. Let this be a moment of convergence, not division- of courage, not hesitation.”
The FNR reaffirmed its impartial stance, stating, “In the spirit of reconciliation and oneness of all Nagas, FNR will not take any sides, but maintain its impartial stand towards the NPGs.” It also emphasized that “Naga reconciliation is inclusive of all Naga people” and stressed the collective responsibility of bringing all Naga political groups together “so that together they can pursue the Naga historical and political rights.”
The forum expressed confidence in the wisdom and leadership of the Working Committee, NNPGs, and called for support “not for FNR's sake, but for the sake of our shared future.”
Sümi Hoho appeals
The Sümi Hoho has earnestly appealed to all Naga Political Groups (NPGs) to participate in the meeting convened by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), with the full cooperation of the Naga tribe Hohos.
The meeting, hosted by the Sumi Hoho, will be held on September 27 in Zunheboto. Along with the FNR, the Sumi Hoho will maintain records of all participants in the significant meeting, it stated.
