ASU and CSU during cleanliness drive on June 5.
Kohima, June 6 (MExN): The Angami Students’ Union, Chakhroma Students’ Union, NPF Phek Division, Kiruphema Youth Organization and GHSS Kigwema observed World Environment Day on June 5 by undertaking various environment awareness activities in their respective events.
ASU, CSU: The Angami Students’ Union (ASU) in collaboration with Chakhroma Students’ Union (CSU) conducted a cleanliness drive at ASU Branch Office, Chümoukedima.
During the drive, waste and litter were cleared as part of the unions’ shared commitment to environmental hygiene and civic responsibility.
Speaking on the occasion, Viketouzo Yashü, Environment & Sanitation Secretary, ASU made a fervent appeal to all citizens of Chümoukedima and beyond to adopt simple, environment-friendly habits in daily life.
Meanwhile, ASU and CSU s reaffirmed their commitment to continue joint initiatives for environmental conservation and a healthier, cleaner Nagaland.
NPF Phek: The Naga People’s Front (NPF) Phek Division marked World Environment Day with a tree plantation programme at Sezü Bridge, Thenyizu village and propagated the need for a collective effort to promote environmental awareness and sustainable living.

Launching the plantation drive, Nuzota Swuro, former MLA and Senior Vice President, COB, NPF, expressed grave concern over the incidents of forest fires, indiscriminate destruction of natural resources and the growing threat of climate change. He said environmental degradation has become one of the greatest challenges confronting humanity today and called for urgent, collective action to reverse the trend.
He observed that Nagaland is blessed with abundant flora and fauna and is among the richest regions in terms of biodiversity. However, he cautioned that this rich ecological heritage is under increasing pressure due to human activities and changing climatic conditions. He stressed that conservation efforts must begin at the community level through responsible use of natural resources and greater environmental consciousness.
NPF Phek division president Chubutse Naro, spoke on the scientific dimensions of climate change, environmental disruption and the long term consequences of unsustainable human activities.
The participants planted around 600 saplings along NH-702A under Thenyizu village, symbolizing their commitment to a greener and cooler future.
KYO: The Kiruphema Youth Organisation (KYO) organised a plantation drive along the stretches National Highways and all approach roads under its jurisdiction under the theme, “Plant Trees, Eliminate Global Warming.”

The plantation drive was conducted in collaboration with the Divisional Forest Officer, Dimapur, Forest Range Officer, Kohima, Service Association Kiruphema and the youth departments of all churches under Kiruphema Village.
The participants reaffirmed their commitment to environmental conservation and the promotion of a greener and healthier future.
GHSS Kigwema: Commissioner & Secretary, School Education & SCERT, Kevileno Angami expressed concern over the visible effects of climate change, stating that even in Kigwema, located in the foothills of Mount Japfü, changes in temperature and climate are becoming increasingly noticeable.

She said while speaking at the World Environment Day at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Kigwema.
Angami encouraged the students to play an active role in reversing the effects of climate change and stressed that environmental responsibility should not be limited to the annual observance of World Environment Day but practiced continuously through changes in lifestyle and daily habits.
She further urged the students to adopt healthy and sustainable lifestyles, including proper waste segregation, sustainable food systems, and reducing e-waste.
The programme was marked by plantation drive, during which 40 saplings donated by M/S T. Albert Angami & Co were planted.
